Keeping the Official Website Fresh: The Rhythm of Content Updates and Technical Iterations

Why a corporate website quickly looks outdated after it is built. This article discusses the pace at which content updates and technology upgrades should each proceed.

After a website goes live, many companies go through a similar process: for the first few months it still feels new, but a year later they look again and find it no longer matches the company's actual situation. Product updates weren't added, team changes weren't reflected, and the price is long since not the number on the page.

A website does not expire on its own, but it will constantly drift away from reality. When this drift accumulates to a certain point, it becomes a negative signal—visitors will think the company is not serious, or is no longer really operating its online business.

Content Updates: Follow the Business

The pace of content updates should be determined by the pace of business changes, not by a fixed cycle. Business information content (products, prices, contact details, team) should be updated as soon as it changes; opinion and knowledge content can be updated less frequently, but you should still regularly check whether it still holds up.

A practical approach is to clearly assign responsibility. The reason many company websites go without updates for a long time is not that there is no time, but that no one is clearly responsible, and the task is by default pushed onto someone else.

Technical Iteration: On Demand, Not Following Trends

At the technical level, frequent changes are not necessary. Maintenance work such as security patches and performance optimization should be carried out on schedule, but architecture-level upgrades should be driven by need—consider upgrading only when new business requirements arise or the existing architecture is clearly holding things back.

Trend-chasing redesigns often cost more than they are worth. A website redesign can cause fluctuations in indexing and disrupt user habits; without a clear goal, the risks outweigh the benefits.

A Simple Maintenance Mechanism

It is recommended to establish two rhythms: conduct a content review every quarter, going through all major pages and flagging outdated information; conduct a technical check every six months to confirm that access speed, mobile performance, and security have not degraded.

These two tasks do not take much time, but they can prevent the website from gradually falling into neglect. Keeping a website fresh is essentially a matter of habit—treat it as something that needs regular attention, not a one-time finished product.
