From Showcase to Service: The Transformation Direction of Corporate Websites

Official websites are shifting from static showcases to service entry points. The key to this shift lies not in piling up technologies, but in first figuring out what users need to accomplish on the site.

Traditional showcase websites mostly stop at introducing themselves. They are like a brochure placed on a table—visitors look and leave. As user habits change, official websites are in a position to take on more—turning from showcasing to serving. The key to this transformation is not piling up technology, but first thinking clearly about what users need to accomplish on the official website.

First understand what users want

Before redesigning, answer three questions: Are users coming to the official website to look up information or to do business? Which of users' problems does the company want to solve? Which services can be completed online?

The most common reason redesigns fail is misaligned needs—features may look complete, but they do not match actual usage scenarios. A more reliable approach is to first map out the user's complete journey: from searching and learning, comparing information, making decisions, to after-sales follow-up. Each stage should correspond to a clear entry point, rather than vaguely placing a single “Contact Us.”

Let the official website take on service functions

Service-oriented official websites usually have several capabilities: online consultation, which can respond immediately when visitors have questions; online booking or submission, allowing interested visitors to directly leave their needs; a data dashboard, helping operators understand what visitors focus on; multi-device adaptation, ensuring it is equally usable on phones and other devices.

These capabilities do not have to be launched all at once. They can be prioritized by business priority, solving first the part that most affects conversion. Technically, stable access speed and reliable servers are the foundation; other functions can be added as needed in modular form.

Work in coordination with Mini Programs

Mini Programs and official websites are not replacements for each other. Mini Programs excel at high-frequency, lightweight interactions and are suitable for scenarios such as booking, querying, and placing orders; official websites, meanwhile, take on brand presentation and in-depth content. Once the two are connected, the user system and data can be interoperable, and the core services of the official website can also be packaged into lightweight entry points that are easy to spread, forming a path from the official website to the Mini Program and back to the official website.

This approach is not complicated; the key is to consider users along the same path, rather than building a separate set for each.

Continuously adjust with data

A service-oriented official website is not fixed once built. By analyzing visitor behavior, you can discover where they stay and where they drop off: which pages are viewed frequently, which steps have a high exit rate, and which content converts better. Analysis such as heatmaps and conversion funnels can present this information as the basis for the next adjustment.

For example, if you find that the exit rate on a certain product page is noticeably high, you need to check whether the content does not match the need or the presentation is hard to understand. Data itself will not directly give the answer, but it will point out where you should look first.

Establish a rhythm of continuous adjustment

The transformation of an official website is not a one-time project. A more feasible approach is to establish a fixed review rhythm: assess changes in needs quarterly, iterate functions every two months, and review data weekly. Treat the official website like any other business system you maintain daily, so it will not quickly turn back into a static page.

From showcasing to serving, what changes is not only functionality, but also the business mindset: the official website is not a deliverable to be completed, but an entry point for continuously serving customers.
